Brandon Durkes is the Owner and Artistic Director of The Bird Comedy Theater in Kansas City. He’s been performing, writing, directing, producing and teaching comedy for more than a decade, for reasons that remain unclear.
In 2017, Brandon and some pals founded the production company Bird in the Middle and created The Anarchy Fun Time Show. He has since created World Championship Arm Wrestling and The 28 Hour Holiday Telethon, among other projects that sounded reasonable at the time.
He was a member of The KC Improv Company from 2014–2021 and served as its Artistic Director from 2018–2021. He is also the former director of the KC Improv Festival and has been teaching comedy in Kansas City since 2015, covering everything from short form and long form improv to sketch comedy, character work and whatever else seemed like a good idea.
His directing work includes the Best of KC Fringe film A Dinner Party and sketch show The Best of Fountain City Sketch, both in 2017.
Brandon’s work with The Bird has earned multiple The Pitch Best of KC awards, including Best Comedy Club, Best Improv/Sketch Troupe and Best Open Mic from 2023 to present, as well as Best Theater Company in 2024.
When he’s not doing comedy, Brandon watches professional wrestling, plays JRPGs and presumably has another project he should be working on.
